Text and research

Gerard Hayes has worked in the Australian Manuscripts Collection of the State Library for over 15 years. His original degree is in Art History from the University of Melbourne, and he worked in curatorial positions at the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne University Gallery before turning to librarianship.

During his time at the Library he has been involved with a number of projects related to the Library's holdings of Burke and Wills Expedition archives. He sees himself as strictly an armchair expert, but hopes to one day ride a camel, and possibly even visit Cooper's Creek.
